A new 42-kilometer section of the “Uzynagash – Otar” highway was officially opened today in the Almaty region. Its launch completes the large-scale reconstruction of the entire route, and now the journey between Almaty and Shymkent is fully connected by a modern four-lane road.
Official Opening Ceremony
The ceremony was attended by Vice Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan Maksat Kaliakkparov, Deputy Akim of the Almaty Region Rustam Isatayev, as well as regional elders. A symbolic moment of the event was the pressing of the start-button for traffic, after which a convoy of 15 vehicles was the first to drive along the new section.
“This year, we have reached a record scale of reconstruction and repair — 13,000 kilometers of roads across the country. This became possible thanks to the support of the Head of State and the dedicated work of road builders who create safe and comfortable routes every day and open new opportunities for the development of regions,” noted Vice Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakkparov.
Road Workers Honored for Their Contribution
As part of the event, specialists who made significant contributions to the project were honored. They received departmental medals, letters of appreciation, and certificates of merit from the Ministry of Transport.
Project Implementation
Major construction and installation works on the “Uzynagash – Otar” section began last year and were completed in just two years. A total of 290 specialists, 163 units of machinery, two asphalt plants, and four road-construction divisions were involved in the project.
A New Highway — New Opportunities
With the commissioning of the final 42-kilometer segment, the Almaty–Shymkent highway is now fully four-lane. This will increase the road’s capacity, reduce travel time, improve traffic safety, and strengthen transport connectivity between regions while enhancing economic cooperation with the Central Asian countries.
